Nice lookin units. Now I'm just wondering, is this the class of locomotives that CSX labels as C44-9Ws? I know CSX has a class of locomotive that are basically dash-9s riding on the older Adirondack trucks instead of the FB-3 Trucks, but I can't remember the number series. You're referring to the 9000-class C44-8Ws... They were built as 4400-horsepower Dash-8 diesels, which is why they have the older truck design... Later in their life, they all got Dash-9 component upgrades, which is why you could call them Dash-8s and Dash-9s; either is acceptable, although the railroad classes them "CW44-9"... >>MC

Definate DL when they are released..I still consider the CW40s newer power in comparison to everything else yet I have seen a few in the Cumberland dead line with the stacks capped!
Eric, nice MMID GP38 I see those often

Later in their life, they all got Dash-9 component upgrades, which is why you could call them Dash-8s and Dash-9s; either is acceptable, although the railroad classes them "CW44-9"... >>MC IIRC, these units were test-beds for the Dash 9 series (they were originally supposed to be CSX 7918-7970, but apparently, the order was delayed as GE developed their Dash 9 technology, and likely gave CSX a deal on them as a result). They are all Dash 9s, all came from the factory as such - for whatever reason, however, CSX and GE originally classified the first three units at CW44-8s (they were built 6 months or so prior to the rest of them, as the first three Dash 9s). All of these pre-dated the CNW C44-9Ws, the first production Dash 9s. Any way about it, these units are definitely NOT Dash 8s. The CW44-8 bit came as a result of the first three units, and was frankly a mistake - many railfans have carried on this designation though, even though it is technically incorrect.
