Made another 1999-era Indy Line activity today... This time I was to take an autorack train from Anderson to Indianapolis... Sounds easy enough, right? Well, the dispatcher was a bit on the swamped side, and somehow he had managed to have a fleet of eastbounds headed east on both mainlines... So basically he had me crossing over at every crossover along the way! Anderson Yard is on the eastbound main, and not long after I left the yard, I passed an eastbound autorack train on the westbound main led by NS and CSX power (didn't get a shot)... Right after this train cleared, I crossed over for the first time from the eastbound to the westbound main... My train was led by Conrail C40-8W 6103 and B40-8 5085... About four miles down the line after I crossed over, I passed a fast-moving eastbound empty hopper drag on the eastbound main, led by CR SD70MAC 4144 and C40-8W 6097... Entering the town of Ingalls, Indiana, I received a diverging clear indication to cross back over to the eastbound main... Waiting for me to clear at the Ingalls crossover on the westbound main was an eastbound UPS hotshot, led by Conrail SD50 6785 and SD40-2 6406... Another four miles down the track outside of McCordsville, an eastbound autorack train led by SD80MACs 4122 and 4106 roared by on the westbound main... Continued in next post...

Northeast of the village of Lawrence, my train got another diverging clear, to cross over for the third time, back over to the westbound main... Approaching fast after I got back to the westbound main was an eastbound manifest, led by CSX C40-8W 7917 and Conrail C40-8W 6074... Since the time period of this run is summer 1999, Conrail, CSX, and NS power were commonly seen on the Indy Line at this time... Passing through Indianapolis... Just on the west side of the city, my train diverged north headed for Chicago via CSX trackage (confusing routings like this were common in the early post-Conrail era)... Just after my power entered the CSX line, an eastbound CSX-powered intermodal roared off of the St. Louis Line to the west, led by C40-8 7525 and freshly-repainted ex-Conrail C40-8W 7350... Thanks for looking!!! >>MC
